On Wednesday, August 7, Tanzila Kamalovna Narbayeva, Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited NARS.
Following a formal invitation from National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang, Chairwoman of the Senate Narbayeva¡¯s visit was all the more meaningful as it was the first visit by a foreign Chairperson of the Senate since NARS¡¯s founding.
Chief of NARS (Dr. Kim Ha-joong) expressed deep gratitude to the delegation for their visit and stated, ¡°This visit will deepen mutual understanding between ROK and Uzbekistan and promote mutual development through exchanges and cooperation.¡±
After Dr. Kim¡¯s remarks, Chairwoman of the Senate Narbayeva noted that a legislative think tank has been established in Uzbekistan parliament to enhance parliamentarism and facilitate the legislature¡¯s all-encompassing reform policy. She stressed that she hopes exchanges, cooperation, and the Knowledge Sharing Program between the Uzbekistan parliamentary research service and NARS can be expanded in the future.
Dr. Kim replied, ¡°NARS will take the initiative in endeavoring to expand bilateral exchanges and promote parliamentary diplomacy.¡±
Yoo Eui-jung (Director of Education and Culture Team at NARS) provided a brief introduction of NARS, and Kim Jong-gab (Legislative Researcher of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Team at NARS) gave a presentation on ¡°The Korean Election System.¡± After the presentation, a lively discussion touched on NARS¡¯s data sources and collection, the relationship between National Assembly and local councils, local councils¡¯ budget control over local government, and the dual office holding of local council members.
Chairwoman of the Senate Narbayeva was accompanied by Vitaliy Fen (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Korea) and Alisher Kurmanov (Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism, Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan). NARS expects that this visit by Chairwoman of the Senate Narbayeva will further consolidate cooperative ties between NARS and the Uzbekistan parliamentary research service.
