On March 24, 2023, the National Assembly Research Service (Acting Chief Lee Shin-woo) held a commemorative ceremony to celebrate its 16th anniversary. Speaker of the National Assembly Kim Jin-pyo and Representatives Song Eonseog (People Power Party), Kim Youngbae (Minjoo Party), Lee Jungmun (Minjoo Party), and Cho Junghun (Transition Party), along with many other distinguished guests and NARS employees joined the event.
In his congratulatory remarks, Speaker of the National Assembly Kim Jin-pyo said that the National Assembly must take preemptive action toward the current state affairs and present timely policies as answers. He also encouraged NARS employees to fulfill their responsibilities, as such is pivot in enabling the National Assembly to preemptively take the lead in finding solutions in these challenging times.
In his celebratory speech, Acting Chief Lee Shin-woo reaffirmed that the NARS will continue to contribute to the vibrant legislative activities by providing rapid research responses, distinctive reports, and insightful seminars. He also stated that NARS employees will not rest on their laurels, but rather continuously hone their capabilities to make the nation's democracy more competent and to create a hopeful National Assembly.
During the ceremony, Speaker Kim awarded the “Excellent Members of the National Assembly Award” to five representatives (who were selected by various quantitative and qualitative assessments including the number of legislative research requests fulfilled and research-based bill proposals made). The awardees are as follows: Representatives Song Eonseog (People Power Party; Gimcheon, reelected), Hong Sukjoon (People Power Party; Daegu, newly-elected), Kim Youngbae (Minjoo Party; Seoul, newly-elected), Lee Jungmun (Minjoo Party; Cheonan, newly-elected), and Cho Junghun (Transition Party; proportional representative, newly-elected).
