On April 7, 2023, Dr. Park Sang Chul, Dean of the Graduate School of Politics and Policy at Kyonggi University, was appointed as the 9th Chief of the National Assembly Research Service.
Right after the House Steering Committee reached an agreement on the appointment and National Assembly speaker Kim Jin Pyo presented Dr. Park with the corresponding letter of appointment, the newly selected chief said in his remarks, “I will spare no effort to provide the highest quality legislative support in every field of study.”
During his inauguration ceremony, Dr. Park said, “Given that I have studied issues of state affairs for decades, taking the position of Chief of the NARS feels quite fitting but challenging at the same time.” He also pledged to do his best to mobilize all the professional manpower and capabilities of the NARS “to contribute to enhancing the public confidence and trust in the National Assembly.”
Dr. Park received his BA, MA, and PhD in Law at Sungkyunkwan University and since 1998 has worked as a professor at the Graduate School of Politics and Policy at Kyonggi University. During his career, he has served as a commissioner at the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning, chairman of the Constitutional Reform Task Force, president of both the Korean Institute for Political Laws as well as the American Constitution Society, and director of the Institute for Korean Peninsula Strategic Studies at Kyonggi University.
